THE DIARIES OF MARTHA AND MURPHY describe the day to day activities and thoughts of Martha and Murphy over little more than a six year period. The diary entries describe with great honesty the lives of two young university students: Martha in Cork and Murphy in Dublin. Murphy is a typical young man whose priorities lie in sex, drinking and partying. He seems to like Martha, although maybe not as much as she likes him. Martha is more dedicated to her studies and less sociable, but falls head over heels in love with Murphy. On the day of his birthday he met an Irish girl in a park in Rome and she helped him to pass the exam. She supported him with care and love.
