Cristina Ciampaglione is a multi-hyphenated visual artist whose work delves deep into the intersection of art and philosophy. Serving as the Communications Officer for the Irish Street Arts, Circus, and Spectacle Network, she also works as a freelance Project Manager for The Walls Project and curates exhibitions independently.
Cristina’s artistic journey began at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Painting and a Master’s in Printmaking. In 2022, she joined the Graphic Studio Dublin, an artist-run studio and gallery established in the 1980s. Here, she has honed her craft, primarily working with woodblock and woodcut techniques. Cristina places particular emphasis on selecting wood for its unique grain and veins, currently using Cirmolo, a type of pine that grows in the Swiss and Austrian Alps.
Her latest artwork, L’État c’est moi, will be featured at the summer show of the Graphic Studio Gallery in Temple Bar, Dublin, running from August 10th to September 10th. This piece is inspired by the concept of Onagrocrazia, a term coined by Italian philosopher Benedetto Croce to describe a “government of the donkeys.” The title of the piece, derived from a quote attributed to Louis XIV, the Sun King, who allegedly declared it in 1655 before Parisian parliamentarians contesting his edicts, reflects Cristina’s exploration of power and authority through her art.
In addition to the Dublin exhibition, Cristina’s work is also on display in Cadaqués, Catalonia, as part of the Miniprint International of Cadaqués at Taller Galeria Fort until September 30th, and in Wingfield, UK, until September 1st. Furthermore, she will be participating in the winter show of the Graphic Studio Gallery in December.
