The Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle Network goes to Cittá di Circo.
The Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle (ISACS) Network – the organisation that supports and grows Ireland’s street, circus, and spectacle art forms, was delighted to be invited to attend Cittá di Circo in Bologna – Italy, on December 9th 2023.
Let’s clarify a few points before diving into this Italian field trip.
What is ISACS?
ISACS is Ireland’s leading support and advocacy organisation for developing street arts, circus and spectacle art forms. It has a diverse, dynamic and highly engaged membership that includes artists, artistic companies, curators, festivals, independent producers, production companies, programmers, archivishttps://isacs.ie/members/ts, academics and enthusiasts from across the island of Ireland and beyond.
Among the several programmes and activities delivered by ISACS, there is also a solid international outlook & presence. Not only by being a core member of the Circostrada Network but also by bringing International Festival makers and Programmers to Ireland – thanks to Culture Ireland – to Irish Street Arts and Circus Festivals to showcase Irish talents and promote Irish artists abroad.
This year, in early November, Aurelio Rota was among the international programmers invited to the National Circus Festival of Ireland in Tralee.
Who is Aurelio Rota?
Aurelio is the president of the Forum Nuovi Circhi in Italy, with which he organises Cittá di Circo in Bologna. He is a promoter of the dialogue between traditional and contemporary circus in Italy. He has directed the Lonato in Festival since 2013 and has been in charge of production and organisation for Circo El Grito since 2021.
The ISACS field trip at Cittá di Circo was highly productive; meaningful connections were fostered, and doors for artistic exchanges between Irish and Italian Circus artists were opened, with touring possibilities for ISACS circus artists to perform in Italy and for Italian circus artists to perform in Ireland were expanded.
Cittá di Circo is vibrant, rich in artistic talent and accessible to all. It is a testament to the Italian Contemporary Circus scene, and ISACS were delighted to be invited to attend and get a real taste of it.
Stay tuned for upcoming news and events that will take place in 2024, thanks to this fantastic field trip.
