This October, Gallery X will host SOL-O, a captivating exhibition of expressionist portraits by Dublin-based artist Sol Robinson.
The preview is on the 24th of October at 6 pm and the show runs from the 25th of October to the 9th of November.
The collection spans Sol’s creative journey, featuring both his earlier and latest works. Known for his emotionally charged style, Sol’s portraits offer a visceral insight into his subjects’ personalities, with each brushstroke embodying the artist’s synesthetic experience—a merging of sensory perception that influences his visual interpretation of emotion and character.
Over the years Sol managed to create and develop his own personal artistic language that allows him to portray the reality around him as he perceives it. The exaggerated proportions and the decisive rough brushstrokes distance the figure from its real objective self and shape it in the form of Sol’s interpretation. Sol constructed this style by mixing different techniques and materials from plaster to sand that allow the colour to emerge from the canvas protruding towards the space between the figure and the viewer thus creating a bas-relief effect that bridges the two levels of art dimension and real physical space. Sol’s artistic process is very unfiltered: his inspiration drives his hand in a fluid yet conscious way. The painting is a direct projection of his inspiration: a specific representation that is still loose and open for the viewer to superimpose a personal narrative in between the coloured lines.
A native of the Liberties, a vibrant part of Dublin’s inner city, Sol has spent the last six years honing his craft at the Back Loft Studios. His portfolio boasts over 400 paintings, primarily in oil, acrylic, and watercolour. His work often explores themes drawn from his immediate surroundings, with a unique focus on how he perceives the world around him. SOL-O promises to be an unmissable showcase of Sol’s expressive vision.
