I’m DAVID OWENS, a street musician from Galway, Ireland. Over the past few years I’ve been living in Dublin – wheeling my baby grand piano to Grafton Street and playing shows to anyone who wanted to stop and listen. With Covid stopping all live music for a year, I found myself struggling to my pay rent. With no end of restrictions in sight, I decided to make the best of a bad situation, and I found an old VW campervan for sale online. Using the last of my savings to buy it, install a new floor, and to spruce up the interior, a few months later it became my new home.
“Vanlife” has its ups and downs, of course not everything is as good as it looks on Instagram, but for the most part it has been a very positive experience. I’ve been exploring this beautiful country and meeting amazing people, all without the pressure of rent.
Next year, I’m going to take it all the way across Europe, busking in each city as I go.
